U.S. Endoscope Market Future Prospects
The U.S. Endoscope market will generate an estimated USD 9,830.2 million revenue in 2024, and it is projected to witness a CAGR of 7.2% during 2025–2030, reaching USD 14,925.6 million by 2030. This growth can be attributed to the rising prevalence of gastrointestinal disorders, such as Crohn's disease, colorectal cancer, and irritable bowel syndrome; rising healthcare costs, and the growing elderly population. Moreover, the growing investment in launching and expanding product lines propels the market.
U.S. Endoscope Market Trends & Growth Drivers
Increasing Number of Product Launches Is Key Trend
The U.S. endoscopes market has seen a significant rise in the number of new product launches in recent years.
Leading market players are continuously developing and introducing advanced endoscopic devices to fulfill the increasing need for minimally invasive diagnostic and treatment procedures.
For instance, in 2024, Olympus Corporation announced the launch of two new bronchoscopes as part of its EVIS X1 Endoscopy System for diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy.
Similarly, FUJIFILM Healthcare Americas Corporation has introduced the FDA-approved EI-740D/S dual-channel endoscope for both upper and lower GI procedures.
As EI-740D/S provides a high imaging quality and features dual channels with diameters of 3.7 mm and 3.2 mm, allowing for the use of various endotherapy devices. This innovation enhances the versatility and efficiency of gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures.
Increasing Incidence of Gastrointestinal Disorders Is Major Growth Driver
The increasing prevalence of gastrointestinal disorders, such as irritable bowel syndrome, colorectal cancer, and Crohn's disease, is raising the demand for endoscopic procedures.
As per the GI Alliance, 20 million Americans are affected by chronic digestive diseases, which account for 25% of all surgical procedures. Further, these conditions are a major cause of disability in offices and result in more hospitalizations than any other condition.
Economically, digestive diseases rank third among all illnesses in the U.S., contributing to significant healthcare costs. Annually, 14 million acute digestive disease cases are treated in the country, including around 75% of all metastases and some common acute infections.
These diseases have a significant impact, resulting in considerable discomfort, pain, financial burden, lost productivity, and loss of life. Specifically, colorectal cancer, which is the second-most-common cause of cancer-related deaths in both American men and women, leads to more than 51,000 fatalities annually.
All these diseases necessitate regular endoscopic screenings and interventions, thus contributing to market growth.
High Cost Is Challenging Factor
The high costs linked with endoscopic devices pose a significantly constraint on the U.S. endoscopes market.
Endoscopes, especially those equipped with advanced features, such as HD imaging and AI, can be prohibitively expensive.
Sophisticated and advanced endoscopic instruments can cost USD 50,000 to USD 60,000 or even more, making them a substantial item in a hospital's budget.
The cost of training healthcare professionals to effectively use these advanced instruments is another financial consideration, as comprehensive training programs are necessary to ensure that healthcare practitioners can operate the latest endoscopic technologies safely and efficiently.
These training programs, while essential, add to the overall expenditure, making it challenging for some institutions to adopt new technologies
U.S. Endoscope Market Analysis
Type Insights
Flexible endoscopes hold the larger share in 2024 in the U.S. endoscopes market, and they are also expected to witness the higher CAGR.
This is mainly due to their versatility, patient comfort, as well as the broad range of procedures they support.
Because flexible endoscopes are designed to navigate complex and curved internal structures in the body, they are suitable for a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, most prominently GI endoscopy, bronchoscopy and ureteroscopy.
Moreover, the demand for them is propelled by their application in minimally invasive procedures, such as colonoscopies, upper GI endoscopies, and bronchoscopies.
Flexible endoscopes also provide greater patient comfort compared to rigid endoscopes. This is due to their flexibility, which allows them to maneuver through the body's natural curves without causing any discomfort.
This is particularly important for procedures such as colonoscopies and gastroscopies, where the endoscope must travel long and winding pathways inside the body.
The minimally invasive nature of flexible endoscopes significantly leads to shorter recovery times and fewer complications and often allows procedures to be performed on an outpatient basis, which is a significant benefit to both patients and healthcare providers.
This segment is divided into the following categories:
Flexible (Larger and Faster-Growing Type)
Rigid
End User insights
The hospitals category holds the largest market share in 2024. This is mainly due to the high patient volumes, modern infrastructure, and significant investment in medical technology.
Moreover, hospitals perform a wide range of endoscopic procedures, ranging from diagnostic to therapeutic interventions.
These include colonoscopies, bronchoscopies, gastroscopies, and more-complex surgeries, such as laparoscopies and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). The ability to offer such a wide variety of procedures makes hospitals the major consumers of endoscopic devices.
During the study, three categories were analyzed:
Hospitals (Largest Category)
Ambulatory Surgery Centers/Clinics (Fastest-Growing Category)
