The country has an abundant supply of sunlight, receiving it for 4,292 hours annually. Additionally, much of the country is a desert; so, there is ample land that is not suitable for agriculture and other activities.
The desert region receives a great amount of sunlight, which makes the country an ideal location for construction of solar parks.
Further, the kingdom is undergoing rapid economic development, for which it is constructing several smart cities and new residential areas are being build. The resulting increase in energy requirements in the country amidst the environmental concerns is impelling the country to pursue solar and other non-renewable energy technologies. The Saudi government has pledged to fulfill around 50% of the country’s electricity need from renewable sources by 2030.
