Batteries are used in every sector, from low-power consumer gadgets to grid-scale energy storage systems. With Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia aims to expand its industrial, infrastructure, tourism, and automobile sectors. Since much of the development will be done with sustainability in mind, EVs and battery energy storage systems are gaining popularity in the kingdom.
The advancements in the lithium-ion battery technology are also expected to become a key driver for market in the coming years. In June 2023, Saudi Arabia’s Obeikan Investment Group and Australian startup European Lithium signed an agreement to set up a lithium hydroxide refinery in the kingdom with an annual capacity of 3,160 tonnes of Li.
