The Qatar HVAC maintenance service market was valued at $243.5 million in 2022, and it is predicted to reach $389.6 million by 2030, advancing at a CAGR of 6.1% during 2022–2030. This is due to the steady growth in the HVAC industry, the increasing demand for AMC services, and the growing construction business in the country.
The economy of Qatar is heavily dependent on the oil & gas sector, with oil accounting for about 40% of GDP and about 63% of government revenues. In order to diversify its economy and decrease its dependency on oil, the government is speeding up its infrastructure development. It is also banking upon the upcoming free zones and other special economic zones (SEZs). Along with this, the growing residential, commercial, and hospitality sectors are expected to push the growth of the construction industry in the country. All the above factors are expected to boost the demand for HVAC maintenance services.
Moreover, the increasing adoption of BEMS by end users for their HVAC units as well as their building energy management is a key industry trend. BEMS allows end users to monitor their HVAC system in terms of their efficiency allowing them to optimize building energy consumption. BEMS and control systems require a minimum of two service maintenance visits carried out by highly trained and skilled professionals that have in-depth knowledge of the operation of HVAC systems.
The cooling category held the largest revenue share, over 60%, in 2022. Qatar, a country with a subtropical and dry hot desert climate, experiences intensely humid and hot summers and low annual rainfall; thereby, making it deeply dependent on HVAC solutions for cooling necessities. Also, the Government of Qatar is implementing new rules for promoting energy efficiency in the country, leading to the replacement of old cooling systems with more efficient systems, since HVAC accounts for one of the highest electricity consumption segments.
Ducted as well as packaged unit cooling type usually provides an extensive service maintenance guide. Although a large chunk of the maintenance cost of ducted split/packaged units is attributed to labor charges, filters and fan blades require replacement at regular intervals. Also, every routine service requires checking for leaks and blocked drain openings making it a cumbersome and time-consuming process. Wiring and connections are usually robust components with a lifespan similar to the overall lifespan of the ducted split/packaged unit. Thus, these factors drive the market growth in this category.
In addition, variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems are gaining momentum in the industry. VRF systems have various advantages over conventional HVAC systems, such as higher efficiency, the ability to heat and cool simultaneously, and quieter operation. Regular maintenance service of VRF systems in the country consists of cleaning coils and changing filters of fan coil units. Also, lower maintenance of a compressor unit enables noteworthy savings as compared to ducted split/packaged units and chillers. These benefits associated with VRF systems are pushing their demand and supporting healthy growth in the need for maintenance services in the country.
On the other hand, ventilation maintenance service is expected to be the fastest-growing category during the forecast period. This can be attributed to the regular service and replacement requirements of ducts, grills, and diffusers for better comfort in terms of ventilation, humidity control, and oxygen requirements. Also, the dusty desert climate is majorly responsible for the premature replacement of air filters and fan coils.
The industry is exhibiting a boom in the demand for AMC service, which is an annual maintenance charge service. This is a packaged solution typically provided by a company involved in the installation of HVAC on a premise. The demand for this type of service has witnessed high growth in recent years, and it is also expected to provide lucrative opportunities to market players in the coming years as well. The end users such as commercial offices, retail stores, hospitals, hotels, and residential buildings, are increasingly adopting these services, due to the ease of maintenance of units.
Moreover, HVAC maintenance service providers are increasingly offering these services to the end users in order to maintain a continuous flow of revenue, as on-demand has no certainty, while AMC provides workers to accordingly set their schedule. Moreover, it helps end users prevent possible equipment failures. Also, commercial users mostly prefer AMC services due to the convenience of maintaining their systems.
Commercial is the leading end-user category, holding a revenue share of around 50% in 2022. This is mainly due to the increasing demand for maintenance services in commercial offices/buildings and hospitality facilities.
Chillers are the most commonly used HVAC systems in commercial buildings in Qatar. However, the rising construction of green buildings, such as the Msheireb Downtown Doha Project, Energy City Qatar, and The Bentley Luxury Tower, in the country, is pushing the demand for high-efficient VRF systems. Also, single splits (ducted and ductless) and VRF systems together form more than 50% of HVAC installed bases in commercial offices/buildings in the nation, which is a prime driver for the surging need for maintenance services in commercial buildings.
SMEs account for more than 85% of enterprises in the country. Usually, SMEs take care of the small HVAC units installed on their premises on their own and hire on-demand services only during part replacements. On the contrary, large enterprises have contractual agreements (BEMS/AMC) with service providers, where the contract period falls between 1 and 5 years.
