  • In August 2023, Dow began a partnership with Mengniu, a dairy company, in China, to launch all-polyethylene yogurt pouches designed for recyclability. This innovation helps both companies’ commitment to achieving a circular economy in China.
  • In October 2023, the Baystar joint venture of Borealis and TotalEnergies operationalized its new 625,000-metric-ton-per-annum Borstar polyethylene unit. With this unit coming online, the production capacity at Baystar’s Pasadena, Texas, site has become more than twice the original.
  • In October 2020, LyondellBasell and Sasol signed an agreement to form an integrated polyethylene joint venture, through which LyondellBasell will acquire 50% of Sasol’s 1.5-million-ton ethane cracker, 0.9-million-ton LDPE & LLDPE plant, and associated infrastructure for a total consideration of USD 2 Billion.
  • In October 2023, Avient Corporation added new flame-retardant grades to its Syncure cross-linked polyethylene formulations portfolio, which do not contain decabromodiphenyl ethane (DBDPE). The Syncure XLPE 200 Series is offered as an alternative flame-retardant for insulation for low-voltage wire and cable without compromising performance.
  • In July 2021, SABIC and ExxonMobil announced that Gulf Coast Growth Ventures, their joint venture located near Corpus Christi, Texas, has achieved the mechanical completion of two polyethylene units and a monoethylene glycol unit. Project startup was likely in the fourth quarter of 2021, ahead of schedule.
