Centrifugal Water Pump Market Dynamics

Opportunities

The increasing urbanization, infrastructure investment and growing disposable income of people in Asian countries act as opportunities for the centrifugal water pump market. The growing urbanization has increased awareness levels among consumers about the importance of clean water to help maintain a healthy lifestyle; thus, providing greater opportunity to the leading players of the centrifugal water pump industry. In Twelfth Five Year Plan, the Indian government announced an investment of $1.0 trillion in the infrastructure sector. This is expected to drive the demand for centrifugal water pumps in key end-use sectors in the country.

Growth Drivers

One of the major factors driving the growth of the centrifugal water pump market is the increasing level of urbanization. The urban population in India is expected to increase to 404 million, while that in China is expected to reach 292 million by 2050. This rapid growth of the urban population will create pressure on the existing water infrastructure, which includes delivery of utility water and removal and treatment of wastewater. To overcome this situation, various governments in Asia and Africa are expected to increase their spending on irrigation and drinking water schemes. Moreover, over the last few years, the use of water pumps has increased in urban households. The lifestyle of the urban population is fast-paced and modern, as compared to that of the rural population. The majority of manufacturers are offering varieties of water pumps to meet the growing demand from households. The urban population mainly uses water pumps to operate shower panels, jacuzzi, bathtubs and other related products that are associated with comfortable lifestyle. Hence, the rapid growth of urban population is expected to drive the demand for centrifugal water pumps.

The growing water scarcity is another factor driving the centrifugal water pump market. According to the Population Action International, by 2025 around 2.8 billion of the worldwide population in 48 countries (include around 40 countries from West Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa and North Africa) is expected to experience water scarcity. This scarcity will lead to the requirement of more current water sources, for example, profound water tables and desalination; and is thus expected to create demand for pumps offering increased capacity and efficiency. Additionally, the governments around the world are guiding commercial enterprises to recycle and reuse water. This in turn is expected to increase the demand for centrifugal water pumps in near future.

Centrifugal Water Pump Market Competitive Landscape

The players in the centrifugal water pump market are undergoing mergers and acquisitions to increase their share in the market. For instance, in September 2015, Ebara Corporation’s consolidated subsidiary Ebara Indústrias Mecânicas e Comércio Ltda. (“Ebara Brazil”) acquired all the outstanding shares of Thebe Bombas Hidráulicas S.A. (“Thebe”), a Brazilian manufacturer of pumps. The acquisition aims to accelerate the expansion of the pump business in South America with cross-selling of wider portfolio of Ebara Brazil & Thebe’s products and optimizing the production capabilities and sales networks. Also, in July 2015, Kirloskar Brothers Ltd’s subsidiary Kirloskar Pompen BV completed the acquisition of Dutch pump manufacturer Rodelta Pumps International BV. Hengelo-based Rodelta makes API and non-API pumps for oil & gas, pulp & paper, water, chemical and other applications.

Some of the major players operating in the centrifugal water pump market include Flowserve Corporation, Ebara Corporation, Sulzer Ltd., Grundfos Holding A/S, Kirloskar Brothers Limited, KSB Aktiengesellschaft, Gardner Denver Inc., ITT Corporation, Torishima Pump Mfg. Co., and The Weir Group PLC.
