Filter bags made of polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) are being used in coal-fired powered fire stations and dust chamber filters in incinerators, as they can withstand both acidic environment and high temperature in coal-fired power plants. These filter bags are efficient and cheaper than other fibers and have service life of three years, as compared to six months for glass fiber. The power plants can significantly reduce their operating cost, along with downtime for maintenance activities with the use of PPS based filter bags.
The pulse jet filter bags are preferred over electrostatic precipitators in power plants, as in the former the amount of energy is utilized at a desired efficiency level without affecting the cost. The application of pulse jet filter bag is expected to increase due to increasing industry demand from power plants.
