India Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) Market Overview
The Indian advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) market is expected to witness considerable growth during the forecast period (2020–2030). The growing demand for vehicles integrated with advanced features, complemented by the increasing disposable income of people, is positively affecting the market for ADAS in the country. In addition, in view of the rising road fatalities in the country, the Government of India (GOI) has announced its plans to improve safety by making these systems integration mandatory for all passenger vehicles by the year 2022.
Based on sensor, the Indian ADAS market is categorized into ultrasonic sensor, infrared sensor, radar sensor, image sensor, light detection and ranging (LiDAR) sensor, and laser sensor. During the forecast period, the radar sensor category is expected to dominate the market in terms of value and the LiDAR sensor category is expected to register the highest CAGR.
The Indian ADAS market, on the basis of system, is categorized into tire-pressure monitoring system (TPMS), drowsiness monitoring system (DMS), parking assist system (PAS), adaptive cruise control system (ACCS), blind spot detection system (BSDS), lane departure warning system (LDWS), adaptive front-lighting system (AFLS), and others (including night vision system and driver monitoring system). With the rise in focus on improving driver and passenger safety, the ACCS and the BSDS are expected to witness high adoption during the forecast period. However, it is the AFLS that is expected to witness the highest demand, among all systems, during 2020–2030.
India ADAS Market Dynamics
With advancements in technology, the demand for safety and comfort features in vehicles has increased exponentially. Moreover, technology upgradation has become the key to any company’s growth in the market. Existing products are being replaced by their newer versions, with the Indian ADAS market witnessing technical collaborations among players in this regard. For instance, in April 2019, Mando Corp. concluded a contract for the supply of ADAS to Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. With the signing of the contract, Mando Corp. advanced into the ADAS market in India to cater to the growing technology demand in the country.
ADAS-equipped vehicles mostly constitute the premium category and are significantly high in cost as compared to standard passenger cars. This makes them unaffordable for several car buyers in the country. Moreover, the maintenance of such cars is quite high, which further limits their adoption, thereby restraining the growth of the Indian ADAS market.
India ADAS Market Competitive Landscape
The Indian ADAS market is moderately fragmented, with the presence of both global and domestic players. In recent years, major players in the market have taken several strategic measures, such as product launches and facility expansions, to gain a competitive edge in the industry. For instance, in August 2019, JK Tyre and Industries Ltd. launched India’s first Smart Tyre equipped with sensors. The company introduced a TPMS that works with the help of sensors and monitors tire pressure and temperature in real time. This helps in the early detection of faults, which can be rectified before they lead to any road mishap.
Some of the key players operating in the market are ZF Friedrichshafen AG, Mando Corp., Robert Bosch GmbH, Magna International Inc., HELLA GmbH & Co. KGaA, Autoliv Inc., Continental AG, and DENSO CORPORATION.
